East Texas Birding Trips

Birding Trips Are Back with East Texas Birding!

Before my stint as the Tyler Audubon Society’s Director of Field Trips, I organized birding trips independently, sharing noticeshere and on the East Texas Birding Facebook page. Those were some fun and feather-filled days!

Fast forward to now: after dedicating time to other projects (and deciding to leave the group-organizing duties behind), I’m thrilled to announce the return of East Texas Birding Trips!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Where to find updates: I’ll post all trip announcements here on the website and on the East Texas Birding Facebook page. Join us at East Texas Birding Facebook Group.
  • Who’s invited? EVERYONE. Seriously, if you like birds, we like you. And if you’re new to birding, we’ve got you covered. We’ll make sure you’re comfortable, included, and—bonus!—you’ll leave a little smarter about our feathered friends.
  • Cost? Free. As in zero dollars. Nada. Just bring your enthusiasm and maybe some snacks to share.
  • Signup for the East Texas Birding Trip Email List! Use the form at the very bottom of this page.

Likely Destinations This Year:

Here’s a sneak peek at where we might venture:

  • Mineola Nature Reserve (a gem!)
  • Old Sabine Bottoms WMA
  • Richland Creek WMA
  • Lake Tawakoni State Park
  • High Island (a Spring migration hotspot)
  • Sabine Woods (a sometimes even better Spring migration hotspot)
  • Anahuac NWR
  • Hagerman NWR
  • …and wherever the birds decide to sing the loudest!

Why Join?

These trips are more than just birdwatching; they’re about building connections, learning together, and having a downright good time in the great outdoors. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or you’ve just bought your first pair of binoculars, we’ll make sure you feel right at home.

So, what are you waiting for? Mark your calendar, grab your gear, and join us for a birding adventure that’s as fun as it is educational. Let’s make some memories (and maybe spot a few rare species while we’re at it)!

See you in the field!

I’m a proud East Texas native who once took the scenic route all the way from the Atlantic to the Pacific—just to realize the Piney Woods had my heart all along.

Since planting my boots firmly back in East Texas in 2014, I’ve put my biology chops to work as a Texas Master Naturalist and served for three years as the Trip Director for Tyler Audubon. On any given day, you’ll likely find me knee-deep in swamp muck to snap the perfect nature shot or waxing poetic about bird migrations to anyone who’ll listen. And yes, I’ve probably tripped over a root or two in pursuit of the perfect photo, but that just keeps my sense of humor nicely honed.

As an author, photographer, and lifelong naturalist, I believe in illuminating the wonders of wildlife and wild places so we can all appreciate—and protect—the world outside our windows. Let’s just say my mission is to persuade even the most confirmed couch potatoes to fall in love with nature. After all, if I can find excitement in sifting through leaf litter for beetles, you can too…although I’ll admit my family sometimes thinks I’ve gone a little nuts. It’s all part of the adventure, right?
