Birding Trips Are Back with East Texas Birding!

Big news, bird lovers: Birding Trips have returned to East Texas Birding!

It’s been over five years since we started offering these trips, and let me tell you, they were a huge hit. Great birds, great people, and plenty of laughs along the way. For a while, I got away from offering the trips as East Texas Birding Trips, after the Tyler Audubon Society asked me be their Field Trip Director and lead their trips. (Fancy title, right? But mostly, it meant making sure we didn’t get lost on the way to the next birding hotspot.)

During my time with the Audubon Society, we pulled off some truly memorable adventures. Long-range trips to places like High Island and Sabine Woods on the Texas coast during Spring migration were particular highlights. Of course, we hit the local areas as well like Mineola Nature Preserve, Old Sabine Bottoms WMA, Richland Creek WMA, and many others. We saw incredible birds and made even better memories. For about three years, we kept the momentum going with trips nearly every month—and sometimes more than one!

But, as much as I enjoyed those years, it was definitely time to switch gears. That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that East Texas Birding Trips are making a comeback!

Here’s what you need to know:

  • They’re FREE. Yep, you heard me right. Free as a bird.
  • Everyone’s invited. Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just figuring out which end of the binoculars to look through, come on out.
  • No long-range fixed schedule. I’ll plan trips as often as feasible—especially in the Spring when birding’s at its peak. Some months might have multiple trips, while others may take a pause. It’ll keep us all on our toes!

If you want to stay in the loop, be sure to sign up for the Birding Trips Mailing List. That way, you’ll get an email every time we plan a new adventure.

So grab your binoculars, lace up your comfiest walking shoes, and join us for the fun and excitement of spotting some feathered friends in their natural habitats. Trust me, the birds aren’t the only ones chirping with excitement around here!

Let’s get out there and make some memories. Who’s with me? 😊
